9octopus helps a connected agent discover relevant skills for a task and retrieve a selected release. skills.sh offers a directory and a CLI for installing skills into an agent’s environment. The right choice depends on how you want to discover and manage those instructions.

Discovery, setup, and delivery
Question9octopusskills.sh
How do I find a skill?Describe a task to your connected agent, or browse the public catalog yourself.Browse the directory and leaderboard to discover skills.
What do I set up?Connect each compatible agent through remote MCP and approve OAuth access.Run the skills CLI to install a skill or a collection into your agent’s environment.
How do skills reach the agent? The agent loads a selected release and requests its supporting files as needed. The CLI downloads and configures the selected skills. Packs group skills into one installation command.

skills.sh supports command-line installation; it does not require manually copying every skill file. See its directory documentation and CLI reference for the workflow described above.

When 9octopus fits

You want to start with the work you need done and let your agent look for relevant guidance. Once connected, the agent can load individual skills without a separate per-skill installation step. You can inspect sources, pin a release, and revoke a client connection from your account.

This depends on an agent that supports remote MCP over Streamable HTTP and OAuth. Discovery still depends on the agent following the instructions and a suitable skill being available. Loading new releases and supporting files requires access to the service.

When skills.sh fits

You prefer an installation workflow and want to select a skill, collection, or pack for your agent’s environment. Its directory and CLI are designed for that approach. Read the installation reference.

What neither approach guarantees

A skill provides instructions and may include supporting files. It does not supply every external tool, credential, or permission those instructions require, and it does not guarantee a correct result. Review the source, prerequisites, and output whichever route you choose.

You can use both approaches where your agent supports them. Avoid loading duplicate or conflicting instructions for the same task.
